Trifluoro are highly electronegative and are generally considered to lie between fluorine and chlorine. Therefore, compounds with trifluoro groups are usually strong acids, such as trifluoromethyl sulfonic acid and trifluoroacetic acid. In chemical synthesis, it may be possible to add trifluor functional groups to organic compounds to reduce alkalinity or to impart unique solvent properties
