Effects of Xylooligosaccharide on Relieving the Symptoms of Chronic Diarrhea

Xylooligosaccharides have many effects on relieving the symptoms of chronic diarrhea, namely:

    1. Regulate the balance of intestinal flora: The intestinal flora of patients with chronic diarrhea is often in an unbalanced state, with the number of harmful bacteria increasing and the number of beneficial bacteria decreasing. Xylooligosaccharide is a high-quality prebiotic that can specifically stimulate the growth and proliferation of beneficial bacteria such as bifidobacteria in the intestine and inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria. After beneficial bacteria occupy a dominant position in the intestine, they can produce a series of antibacterial substances such as bacteriocins and hydrogen peroxide. These substances can inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria and the production of toxins, thereby improving the intestinal microecological environment, reducing intestinal inflammation and relieving diarrhea symptoms.

    2. Improve intestinal barrier function: Impaired intestinal barrier function is one of the important causes of chronic diarrhea. Xylooligosaccharides can improve the barrier function of the intestinal mucosa by promoting the growth of beneficial bacteria and increasing the expression of tight junction proteins in the intestinal mucosa. Tight junction proteins can tighten the connection between the epithelial cells of the intestine, prevent harmful substances (such as bacteria, toxins, etc.) from entering the blood, reduce irritation of the intestine, and help relieve diarrhea.

    3. Regulate intestinal osmotic pressure: Xylooligosaccharides are not easily digested and absorbed in the intestine. They can form a certain osmotic pressure in the intestine and keep the water content in the intestine at an appropriate level. In patients with chronic diarrhea, too much water in the intestine is one of the causes of diarrhea. XOS can regulate the osmotic pressure in the intestine and prevent too much water from entering the intestine. This will normalize stool properties and reduce the frequency of diarrhea.

    4. Affect the enteric nervous system: The enteric nervous system plays an important role in regulating intestinal motility and secretory function. In patients with chronic diarrhea, dysfunction of the enteric nervous system may occur, resulting in rapid or uncoordinated intestinal motility. XOS can affect the secretion of neurotransmitters and hormones in the intestine, regulate the function of the intestinal nervous system, restore the normal rhythm of intestinal peristalsis, and relieve diarrhea symptoms.

    5. Resist inflammation: Intestinal inflammation plays a key role in the onset and development of chronic diarrhea. Xylooligosaccharides can reduce inflammatory reactions in the intestine by regulating the function of immune cells in the intestine and reducing the production and release of inflammatory factors such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6). In addition, XOS can promote the production of anti-inflammatory factors such as interleukin-10 (IL-10), further enhancing the anti-inflammatory effect and alleviating diarrhea symptoms.

In summary, xylooligosaccharides relieve the symptoms of chronic diarrhea in several ways, including regulating intestinal flora, improving intestinal barrier function, regulating intestinal osmotic pressure, influencing the intestinal nervous system, and anti-inflammatory effects.
