Features of Polydextrose Powder (Type III)


Low calorie. Polydextrose powder is not absorbed when passing through the stomach and small intestine. About 30% is fermented by microorganisms in the large intestine to generate volatile fatty acids and CO2. About 60% is excreted in the feces, and the heat generated is only 25% of sucrose and 11% of fat. Since polydextrose has extremely low calorific value, it can rarely be converted into fat and will not cause obesity.


Polydextrose powder has good water solubility and can prepare aqueous solutions with concentrations up to 80%. It is insoluble in ethanol but partially soluble in glycerol and propylene glycol.


Polydextrose powder has good stability. In the laboratory, polydextrose powder was observed under exposed conditions of 25°C, 45°C and 60°C and could be stored stably for more than 90 days.


Polydextrose powder can be used as a wetting agent to prevent or slow down the adverse changes of moist food, making the food neither dehydrated nor absorb water.


Polydextrose powder can promote the growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria, adjust the balance of intestinal flora, and inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria.
