Ⅰ. Erythritol as an obesity antagonist

According to statistics, India is currently the world's largest diabetic country with more than 40 million diabetic patients, China ranks second with more than 30 million diabetic patients, and the United States is third with more than 10 million patients.

The World Health Organization estimates that by 2025, the number of diabetic patients in China will reach 50 million, and China may become the world's largest diabetic country after India.

This is not only because of the largest population base in China, but also because of the rapid economic development in China, which has led to a sharp increase in the number of obese Chinese people whose lives are improving rapidly, while the majority of Chinese obese people are "central obesity", the "central obese people" in China whose life has changed rapidly have become the "susceptible population" for diabetes.

More and more obese patients have made the Chinese health care products industry pay more and more attention to sugar-free weight loss products. After searching for various sugar-free ingredients, I found that the latest international popular erythritol is known for its Extremely low energy value – "0" calorific value has aroused great interest.

Physical properties of erythritol Erythritol is a filling sweetener with a chemical name of 1,2,3,4-butanetetraol, a molecular formula of C4H10O4, a molecular weight of 122.12, a melting point of 126°C, and a boiling point of 329℃~331℃.

    Ⅱ. Main functions of erythritol

    1. Very low calorific value, energy is only 0.87kJ/g, known as "0" calorific value ingredients.

    2. No moisture absorption, even under 90% air humidity.

    3. Heat of dissolution – 97.4J/g, erythritol powder is cool in the mouth.

    4. High tolerance, the maximum tolerance of normal body is 50g/d.

    5. Not used by Streptococcus mutans, anti-caries. Erythritol is used in health products.

    6. Erythritol is a filling sweetener, the sweetness is 60% to 70% of sucrose, and it has a cool taste when used. It has pure sweetness and good sweetness properties, which are very close to those of sucrose without bad bitterness. The sweetness characteristics when shared with saccharin, aspartame, and acesulfame potassium are also very good, which can cover up the bad taste or flavor usually associated with strong sweeteners, such as erythritol and stevioside in a ratio of 1000: (1 -7) Mixed use can mask the after-bitterness of stevioside.

    7. Attention should be paid to the use of erythritol in health products: when erythritol is used in health products, high-power sweeteners, such as sucralose, aspartame, neotame, etc., can be added in an appropriate amount to reduce calories 50%, which can effectively curb the caloric intake of obese patients.

According to different needs, the addition amount can be from 20% to 70%, and it can be made into decoction pieces, powder, granules, capsules and other dosage forms.

In the process of producing health care products, manufacturers can use erythritol powder as the main ingredient and supplement it with other auxiliary materials according to their own needs or product appeals, so as to develop products that meet the needs of the public.
