Trifluoroacetic Acid Uses

Trifluoroacetic acid, whose chemical formulai s CF3COOH and molecular weight is 114.02, can be combined with carbon disulfide so as to dissolve protein. TFA acid is also an excellent solvent for organic reactions and can obtain results that are difficult to obtain in general solvents.

As a very strong protic acid, trifluoroacetic acid can be mutually soluble with the organic system, so it is widely used as a catalyst for a variety of organic syntheses, such as alkylation of aromatic compounds, acylation, olefins polymerization, and other reactions of the catalyst.

For instance, trifluoroethanol can be prepared by hydrogenation reduction of trifluoroacetic acid. Trifluoroethanol is an excellent solvent and cleaning agent for advanced instruments, as well as an intermediate for synthetic medicine and anesthetics.

In addition, trifluoroethyl anhydride can also be prepared by co-heating trifluoroacetic acid with phosphorus pentoxide. Trifluoroacetic anhydride (TFA) is an important intermediate in the synthesis of pesticides and medicine, which is now widely used to promote nitrification.
