Galacto-oligosaccharide

Galacto oligosaccharide (GOS) is a kind of functional oligosaccharides with natural properties. Its molecular structure is generally connected with 1~7 galactosyl groups on galactose or glucose molecules, namely Gal-(Gal)n -Glc/Gal (n is 0-6). In nature, galacto oligosaccharides in baby formula takes up a small amount animal milk, while human breast milk contains more. The establishment of bifidobacteria flora in infants largely depends on the GOS components in breast milk.

In nature, there are trace amounts of galacto-oligosaccharides in animal milk, and a little more in breast milk. The sweetness of galacto oligosaccharide is relatively pure, with a low calorific value (7.1J/g), and its sweetness is 20% to 40% of that of sucrose, and it has strong moisturizing properties. It has high thermal stability under neutral pH conditions. After heating at 100°C for 1 hour or 120°C for 30 minutes, there is no decomposition of galactooligosaccharides. Galacto oligosaccharide powder and protein heat together to cause Maillard reaction, which can be used as a kind of food source such as bread and pastry.

Advantages of Galacto-oligosaccharide

Advantages of Galacto-oligosaccharide

Enhance The Colonization Resistance And Immunity

Galactose oligosaccharides can proliferate bifidobacteria, inhibit harmful bacteria, enhance the colonization resistance and immunity of the human intestine, and also make the body's ammonia.

Advantages of Galacto-oligosaccharide

Promote Human Intestinal Peristalsis

Galactooligosaccharides supplement can promote the intestinal peristalsis of the human body and enhance the ability of the intestine to advance the movement, so that harmful substances can be discharged from the human body in time.

Advantages of Galacto-oligosaccharide

Prevent Dental Caries

Galactooligosaccharides supplement has the characteristics of not being digested and absorbed by the human body, low sweetness and low calories, and is not used by the streptococcus in the oral cavity or decomposed by oral enzymes, so it has the function of preventing dental caries.

Advantages of Galacto-oligosaccharide

Promote Vitamin Synthesis

The intake of galactooligosaccharides supplement and foods can directly promote the synthesis of B vitamins, improve protein absorption and utilization and promote mineral absorption

What Foods Have Galacto Oligosaccharides?

What Foods Have Galacto Oligosaccharides?

Generally speaking, there are many foods that contain galacto-oligosaccharides, such as bananas, onions, garlic, barley, and so on. Therefore, galactooligosaccharide supplement is a water-soluble dietary fiber. If taken for a long time, it can lower serum cholesterol and improve lipid metabolism in the blood.

Prebiotic Galactooligosaccharides

Prebiotic Galactooligosaccharides

Both fructo oligosaccharide and galactooligosaccharides are oligosaccharides and belong to the prebiotic category. Oligosaccharides are not common sugars and cannot be digested and utilized by the human body. These oligosaccharides will reach the intestines directly, be decomposed and utilized by the beneficial flora, and converted into a source of nutrients for the growth and reproduction of the beneficial flora.

Prebiotics are stimulants for probiotics, which can be used by intestinal flora. Promoting the growth of probiotics can promote the reproduction of intestinal probiotics and improve the balance of intestinal flora.

Galacto-oligosaccharide-FAQs

Galacto-oligosaccharide-FAQs

  • What foods have galacto oligosaccharides?

Galacto-oligosaccharides are made up of plant sugars linked in chains. They are found naturally in dairy products, beans, and certain root vegetables. People use galacto-oligosaccharides as prebiotics. Prebiotics act as food for "good" bacteria in the intestine.

  • What does Galactooligosaccharides mean?

Galacto-oligosaccharides are classified as prebiotics, defined as non-digestible food ingredients that beneficially affect the host by stimulating the growth and/or activity of beneficial bacteria in the colon.

  • What is galacto oligosaccharides in baby formula?

Safety and Efficacy of an Infant Formula Supplemented With Galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) ... Oligosaccharides are one of the major breast milk components. They are not digested and reach the colon where they're used by selected groups of microflora positive bacteria, specifically bifidobacteria and lactobacilli.

  • What are GOS foods?

High GOS foods that this enzyme is likely to assist tolerance with include:

    · Legumes (e.g. red kidney beans, chickpeas, baked beans, split peas)

    · Cashews and pistachios.

    · Hummus dip.

    · Soy milk made from whole soy beans.

    · Drinks made with soy milk containing GOS e.g. soy cappuccino.

    · Oat milk.

    · Freekeh.

  • What is the difference between FOS and GOS?

However, there are some differences between two prebiotics: as in FOS intervention demonstrated by OGTT (P < 0.001), and in GOS intervention demonstrated by fasting glucose. ... On the other hand, the alteration of glucose observed in our study is slightly different from other literature.

  • What is GOS and FOS in formula milk?

Adding prebiotics or probiotics to infant formula to improve the intestinal flora of formula-fed infants is considered to be a major innovation. ... The prebiotic (GOS/FOS) group (n 19) received regular infant formula supplemented with a mixture of galacto-oligosaccharides and fructo-oligosaccharides (6 g/l).
